Did you answer yes? Then can I ask you why?
You might tell me that is obvious I am
overweight and need to lose the excess
weight. Ah! But wait have you ever been on a
diet before?
I can imagine many of you saying yes I have
been on and off diets for so long I can’t
remember when I wasn’t on a diet.
How many times have you started a diet with
really good intentions, and even managed to
lose a few or maybe quite a lot of pounds
and then what happens next? You suddenly
stop exercising or watching what you eat and
suddenly those pounds you lost are back with
the vengeance and more beside. How many
times have you lost the same weight over and
over again?
How many different types of diets have you
tried? There are the popular ones but there
are so many fad diets I have lost count as
to what is now available. Maybe you are
sitting there smiling thinking about the
time you did the cabbage soup diet or the
grapefruit diet or anything else like that.
You know these might be good for a short
time but who wants to live on grapefruit or
cabbage soup?
The truth is DIETS DON’T WORK. If diets
worked and you had followed them time and
time again you would be thin. Think how many
pounds you have lost during the course of
your life, for some of you when you add them
all up it is more than you weigh at the
moment.
Diets don’t work because in the main you
can’t sustain them. You go on holiday and
you eat whatever is available and the pounds
go on and suddenly you are discouraged and
quit. Or you have a bad day which means you
end up eating chips, donuts and chocolate
while watching a film and all the time your
self esteem drops lower and lower, in fact
if it went any lower it was hit the opposite
side of the world.
What you need is to decide to learn to eat
in a proper manner. To realize that garbage
in is garbage out. If you want burgers,
fries and coke daily you are going to get
fatter. If you know that you want to eat
these once in awhile then go ahead it won’t
hurt you. Maybe you downsize the fries and
coke. If you know you are going to an eat
you like buffet, then don’t panic but think
ahead. Eat smaller meals during the day, and
then eat in the evening but not so much that
you feel sick. Know your limitation and know
when to stop.
It takes time and effort to know when to
stop but it is possible to learn it.
There are so many rules around at the moment
when it comes to dieting that so many people
feel condemned when they think they have
broken a rule.
If you know you can eat any food, any time
you want, and all you need to do is control
the amount you eat, then nothing is going to
make you feel bad.
How many times have you said, “I failed with
my diet today because I ate pizza and ice
cream?” Imagine what it would be like if you
were allowed those and then you would stop
feeling like a failure.
You would find that many of the foods you
are craving would no longer hold the
attraction for you. When something is banned
people want it. Put a wet paint sign by a
bench in the park, and then watch how many
people touch it to see if the bench is still
wet. The more you stop yourself from eating
a food the more you want it.
Make a decision today to stop dieting. That
doesn’t mean you and not going to get
healthy and lose weight, but you are no
longer on a diet where there are so many
forbidden foods. Nothing is disallowed. Who
is the person who decided that certain foods
were bad for you in the first place, maybe
the person who wrote the diet? Look at some
of the diets around and see one saying don’t
eat meat another saying only eat meat,
another saying no red foods another telling
you to eat tomatoes. They are all in
conflict, but if you want to lose weight,
then the first important step is to stop
being on a diet.
Learn about food, learn to love food, learn
there is no such thing as good or bad food.
The food isn’t bad it is you when you abuse
it. Time to admit you are an abuser. Time to
stop abusing food. The food did nothing to
deserve it. When you buy food in the raw
state there is nothing added to them to make
them into bad foods, you do that when you
cook them.
Make today the day when you decide to
educate yourself and learn to love food,
love yourself and love the fact that you are
never having to go on another diet.

Healthy Children
Breakfast is an important meal for
everybody, but especially for children.
Their bodies work hard during the day, and
if they have no fuel they will buy the
nearest food to sustain them through those
lessons. Children will encounter far less
problems in school when they eat breakfast
and research has shown that school results
improve when a child has the right diet.
Too often breakfast is missed because so
many other jobs need to be completed before
the day starts. With organisation and rules
you can see there is enough time to get
everything done and breakfast eaten.
Some of the rules might not be popular with
your children as you try to change the
habits they have become used to. But you
will need to talk with them and say this is
an investment in their health.
Encourage them to finish their homework in
the evening and get their school bags
packed. That way you will know in the
evening if anything is missing. Give them a
few extra minutes on the computer or
watching television once they have completed
the tasks.
Get their clothes sorted the night before,
check nothing is missing and that any
activities which need special clothing are
also available.
Plan on what you are giving the children for
breakfast. It might be something simple like
some cereal and a glass of fruit juice.
Choose cereal which is not loaded with
sugar. Have some fruit on hand which they
could eat on the way to school or in the
car. If you child likes yoghurt, instead of
buying fruit yoghurt, buy natural yoghurt
and add your own fresh fruit to it.
Most breakfasts take less than 5 minutes to
prepare. It doesn’t have to be a complicated
meal, just a healthy meal. Your children
need to eat breakfast and if you have never
eaten breakfast before you need to decide to
start today. Remember that breakfast is an
important meal if you want your children to
grow up healthy.

People
will use the excuse that they can’t afford
to exercise. They don’t have any spare money
to join those “expensive gyms”. If you want
to join a gym it doesn’t have to cost a lot
of money. You could decide to exercise in
your home for the cost of a DVD. And If you

get excellent results.
If you are serious about wanting to get
healthy then you’ll find a way to pay for
it. If you do choose to exercise then it
will save you money.
You might be wondering how that could be,
because we have been fed the lie that
exercise is expensive. The cheap forms of
exercise don’t get as much media coverage as
the expensive forms of exercise.
If you look at your personal budget for a
few moments, you need to see how much you
are spending in two areas, food and medical
care. How many medical problems like
diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure,
and heart disease do you have? How many has
your Doctor told you are related to your
weight? Your Doctor might have told you to
lose weight and get fit.
If you talk to your Doctor they will be able
to guide you into a fitness plan which will
include both exercise and healthy eating.
Many of the diseases people have can be
improved and sometimes reversed when
exercise and a good diet are taken to heart.
People can find that their medical bills
will be reduced purely by taking action and
working out. As you stop buying unhealthy
foods and eating out at fast food
restaurants you will find that you have more
money available at the end of the month.
Exercise will save you money; you will no
longer be eating as much food which means
your shopping bill will be reduced. You will
no longer have as many medical problems
which mean your medical bills will also be
reduced. Now you know why exercise will save
you money, then you have no excuses left as
to why you can’t exercise.

Healthy Eating Plan
You have made the decision to start to eat
from a healthy eating plan. As you take a
look at your normal eating habits and also
your weight you discover you need to lose
some kilos. It might be that you have
discovered you need to lose many kilos and

You are now faced with a decision and how
you respond now can make the difference to
you losing weight or gaining weight. Most
overweight people don’t tend to stay at the
same weight. You are faced with the reality

How do we and others see us?
How many times have we weighed ourselves and
who we are by our weight? Are we weighed
down by weight? We often fail to see that we

and size in the 1930’s is now seem as being
obese and unacceptable.
Look at the way eating disorders and on the
increase and how young some children are
becoming anorexic.
Being obsessed with food and diet is causing
more and more people to be addicted to food,
weight and how they look.
How many have made food an enemy today?
We should eat because we need food but how
many hate the food they eat thinking that is
the problem behind their weight gain?
Sorry, but it isn’t the foods fault. Food on
its own is healthy. Have you ever gone into
the garden (yard) and looked at fresh fruit
and vegetables, do they have the power to
make us fat? Take a nice piece of meat or
fish again do they have the power to make us
fat? NO! We take these foods and then mess
around adding so many fats, sugars and other
things that we have to take the blame firmly
on our shoulders. We cook it or chose to buy
it.
When was the last time a cookie spoke to you
and told you in an audible voice to eat it?
Food doesn’t do this, we do it ourselves.
Food is not the enemy but what we have done
to it has become the enemy.
Our weight controls our moods and our lives.
It is an idol in our lives. It has taken
first place in our lives.
How many hours a day do we spend being
concerned about our weight and food? The
cycle needs to be broken. We may be at the
right weight but it can still be an idol.
Some may have abused their bodies that their
metabolism is shot to pieces, so what is
happening to their bodies might still not be
good and healthy.
Stop weighing yourself and others by what
you see and start to learn to take
responsibility for your eating problems on
yourself.

to choose an exercise program
When you make the decision to start an
exercise program you might have many
question about what you should be doing. A
good exercise program will be designed
around you taking into account your weight
and medical problems. You should ensure that
whoever does the initial program with you is
a qualified person.

develop not only your exercise program but
also your diet program.
Can’t afford one? No matter workout of the

needs. This is your body and it will be the
only one you have, so take care of it.

slowly and daily increase what you can do.
Even if this week you can’t do 4 hours of
exercise then do what you can, and increase
until you can do the 4 hours in the week.

Choices for Your Eating
There are times when you have to make a
choice about what you eat. You will get to a
stage in your dieting where you have to
choose. Choose healthy food or fast food,
what decision would you make and why would
you make that decision.
It is a special occasion and you are being
taken out for dinner. You’ve been told that
tonight money is not a problem and you can
choose anywhere you want to eat.
Normally you would choose to eat out at one
of the fast food restaurants in the
neighborhood, but there is a really nice
restaurant opened just a few blocks away.
People have been saying, how wonderful the
food is there. You know that it is going to
cost a lot of money, but the experience
would be a dream coming true.
What would be your choice here, and more to
the point what food would you chose once you
got there?
Very few people would choose their local
fast food restaurant for that special meal.
They would want the candles; the wine; the
soft lights and the music. People would want
that intimate setting where they could talk
quietly with their partner. They eat and
savor the food they are eating. They taste
every mouthful, and before they know it a
couple of hours have passed.
People will normally choose that nice
setting for a meal out, because they enjoy
being treated as a special person. Yet
everybody is special and deserves to be
treated in a special way when it comes to
food. You have now reached the point of
making a decision between “fast food” and
“non fast food” for your everyday eating.
You can make the choice of sitting at the
table as a family and having that intimate
dinner with everybody. You can have good
food with conversation. Yes it might take
some time if you don’t normally eat this
way. But every member of your family is
special and will enjoy being treated as a
special person.
If you buy the food for your family then you
are responsible for the food in the house.
You have to stop waiting for the day to come
when you have your diet sorted to start
making healthy choices. Be radical turn off
the television and tell the family that they
are sitting down at the table for dinner
tonight and every night. Add in a healthy
food that the family don’t normally eat.
Make changes slowly and see how the diet of
the family will change.
